Florence Y'alls News Release

Normal, Ill. - Isaac Wenrich delivered a two-RBI double in the 12th inning, sending the Florence Freedom, presented by Titan Mechanical Solutions, to a 6-4, extra-innings win over the Normal CornBelters.

The Freedom's (20-30) fourth-straight win was also their first win of the season with the International Tie Breaker in effect. Both teams scored once in the 11th before Wenrich's hit put the Freedom up by two in the 12th. Zach Wendorf shut the door on another Florence victory.

Normal (23-27) opened the scoring in the first inning without a hit. Mitch Elliot was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and then moved to second on a groundout. When he darted for third on a steal attempt, Wenrich's throw tipped off of Taylor Oldham's glove and rolled into left field, which allowed Elliot to score.

Trailing 1-0 after three frames, the Freedom benefited from a CornBelters' error in the fourth. After Newell reached on the error, Collins Cuthrell launched his seventh home run of the season to left field, putting the Freedom ahead 1-0.

In the fifth, Florence tacked on one more. After Daniel Fraga was hit by a pitch and stole second, Austin Newell laced an RBI double to the gap in left-center, putting the Freedom ahead 3-1.

Jordan Kraus did not allow a hit through his first four innings. In the fifth, he walked the first two batters of the frame and then R.J. Perucki singled for Normal's first base knock. Kraus was able to minimize the damage, only allowing one run to score and keeping the Freedom in front 3-2.

In the seventh, Dylan Kelly launched a ball to left, but Josh Henderson made an outstanding play. He made the catch while flipping over the wall to rob Kelly of a home run. He held his glove high and the Freedom kept the lead.

Kraus finished allowing just three hits and two runs (one earned), while walking three and striking out three.

The Freedom took a 3-2 lead into the ninth inning after Ethan Gibbons stranded two in the eighth. Perucki sent the game into extras with a home run to right.

Both teams scored their International Tie Breaker runs in the 11th, Florence on a sacrifice fly by Cuthrell and Normal on an RBI single by Perucki, before the Freedom took the victory in the 12th.

Wendorf earned the win, tossing three innings and striking out four, while allowing just one hit and one unearned run. Tony Vocca and Pete Levitt also pitched for the Freedom.

Brower recorded the only multi-hit game for Florence, while Cuthrell knocked in three.

Francisco Carrillo took the loss, while Perucki had three hits and two RBIs.

The Freedom have their second opportunity at a sweep over the CornBelters coming tomorrow. Jeremy Gooding (3-5, 4.10 ERA) will be on the hill for Florence against RHP Chris Carmain (2-4, 4.59 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 4:35 p.m.
