Toronto Marlies News Release
The Toronto Marlies and Rochester Americans split a two-game home-and-home last weekend, as the North Division rivals met on back to back nights.
Starting on the road in Rochester, the Marlies launched a late comeback to erase a two-goal lead in Rochester. Trailing 3-1 at the midway point of the second period, Chris Mueller put away the rebound off a Trevor Moore shot to close the gap to a single goal at the intermission.
Mueller scored his second of the night with under five minutes remaining in the third, tying things up with a quick shot from the slot. Less than a minute and a half later, Mueller put another shot on net that squeaked through Linus Ullmark and was sitting in the crease. Kerby Rychel rushed to the net and knocked it in to give the Marlies a lead. Miro Aaltonen added an empty net goal as the Marlies finished with a 5-3 victory.
Back at Ricoh Coliseum on Saturday, the Marlies ended up on the wrong side of a third period comeback. Calle Rosen, Aaltonen and Mueller all scored three straight goals in the second period to take a 3-1 lead into the third.
Rochester responded before Mason Marchment reclaimed the two goal lead. In the final six minutes, Rochester charged back to take the lead in a 7-4 final.
The Marlies record now sits at 39-15-0-1 and they remain in the top spot in the American Hockey League.
They hit the ice again tomorrow for our second school day game of the season against the visiting Syracuse Crunch.
