Devils Win Season Finale against Belleville
February 27, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Belleville Senators News Release
The Binghamton Senators beat the Belleville Senators 4-1 in the team's final encounter of the season Tuesday night at the Yardmen Arena.
Danny Taylor turned aside 21 shots for Belleville while Filip Chlapik, scored. Nick Lappin, Christoph Bertschy, Michael Kapla and Blake Pietila scored for Binghamton while Cory Schneider made 19 saves.
The lone goal of the first period came through Lappin's 19th of the season as his wrister from the left faceoff circle fought its way through traffic and past a screened Taylor at 13:34.
Belleville found its equalizer through Chlapik's eighth of the year at 5:02 as he wired a one-timer past Schneider after Lajoie's cross-ice feed. But the Devils would re-take the lead with 3:49 to play in the period on the power play after Eric Selleck had taken a roughing penalty on a scrap with Brandon Baddock as Bertschy used a screen to wrist his 11th of the year past Taylor.
Kapla pushed the Binghamton lead to 3-1 with 12:46 left in regulation on a big slap shot from the left face-off circle that Taylor never even saw due to a screen from Bertschy.
Pietila sealed the deal with an empty-netter with 2:01 left.
Schneider started for the Devils as he is on a rehab assignment from New Jersey. Belleville went 4-4 against Binghamton this season.
Belleville returns to action Friday to start a three-in-three as they face the Utica Comets on the road. The Sens are back home Saturday to host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers for the first time this season and tickets are available.
