July 5, 2010 - Northern League (NL)
Kansas City Monarchs News Release
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - For the fifth time in six weeks the Northern League has selected a Kansas City T-Bone for weekly honors, this time naming right-hander Cody McAllister Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 4.
McAllister, who won a team-high eight games for Kansas City in 2009, threw a four-hit shutout at Joliet on June 30 in his lone start during the week. In that game, he struck out 10 while walking just one. On the way to his first career complete game and shutout, he retired 14 consecutive batters one point during the contest. On the year, he sits tied for fourth in the Northern League in wins (four) and is ninth in ERA (3.67).
McAllister, who is only 26-years-old, is playing his second season with the T-Bones. Last season he went 8-4 with two saves while his 4.43 ERA ranked seventh in the Northern League. He made his first career start on June 21, 2009 and earned victories in each of his first three professional starts. In his eight starts last season, McAllister posted a 5-2 record with a 4.57 ERA. He finished the season strong, going 4-1 with 1.74 ERA last August.
The 6-2, 190-pounder was originally drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 34th round of the 2003 amateur draft, but did not sign. He went on to play collegiately at Edmonds Community College (Lynnwood, WA) and Oklahoma City University (Oklahoma City, OK) before signing as a free agent with the Boston Red Sox organization in 2007. He spent two seasons in the Red Sox farm system prior to signing with the T-Bones on April 27, 2009. Playing his fourth professional season, he has a career mark of 16-9 with 11 saves and 4.04 ERA.
McAllister is the first T-Bones pitcher to be named Pitcher of the Week since Brett Davis took home the honors for the week ending August 24, 2009. He joins teammates Jacob Blackwood (week ending May 30), Jim Fasano (June 6), Keanon Simon (June 20), and Ray Sadler (June 27) as T-Bones to earn weekly honors this season.
