Schaumburg Flyers News Release
SCHAUMBURG, IL - The Flyers are proud to announce that pitcher Dustin Glant and catcher Richard Mercado were both chosen to represent the Schaumburg Flyers as 2010 All Stars. The Northern League's best will battle the Golden League All Stars in Tucson, Arizona at Hi Corbett Field on July 14th.
Glant, 29, leads the Flyers with four wins and a 3.35 ERA, the lowest of any Schaumburg starting pitcher and the seventh lowest earned run average in the Northern League. The righty has already thrown a complete game this season, shutting out the Jackhammers on June 21st while striking out seven batters.
This is Glant's second Northern League All Star selection. The starter was named to the roster in 2009.
Mercado, 27, leads the Flyers with 21 RBI this season and possesses a .278 average, fourth best on the team. The catcher has appeared in every game this season but one, and has impressed offensively and defensively this season behind the plate. This is Mercado's first Northern League All Star selection.
"We are proud of both Dustin Glant and Richard Mercado for their selection to the 2010 Northern League All Star Team," said Executive Director of Operations Aaron Studebaker. "It's a testament to the hard work and effort that they have put in throughout the entire season with the Flyers."
Tickets are still available to see Schaumburg in action before the All Star Break next week. See All Star Dustin Glant start against the Rockford Riverhawks at Alexian Field on Tuesday, July 5th at 7 PM. To purchase your seat, log on to www.flyersbaseball.com or call (847) 891-2255.
