Northern League Names Player and Pitcher of the Week

First baseman/designated hitter Patrick O'Sullivan of the Rockford RiverHawks was named Northern League Player of the Week, and Kansas City T-Bones pitcher Cody McAllister received the Northern League Pitcher of the Week honor for the period ending July 4th , 2010.

O'Sullivan, who led the Northern League with a .778 slugging percentage in the week, batted .370 (10-for-27) with two doubles, three home runs and 10 RBI in seven games. He also scored eight runs and extended his active hitting streak to nine games. He finished the week hitting a home run in three straight games, including two over the Great Clips sign in left field, which won free haircuts to fans in attendance.

The 6-3, 225-pound veteran was acquired by the Rockford RiverHawks on February 22nd , 2010 as a free agent after he played last year for Fort Worth (American Association). A 12-year veteran of professional baseball, O'Sullivan has a career .315 batting average. He has over 1,300 career hits in 1,092 games played since his career began in 1999.

The 33-year-old, right-handed hitter was originally drafted by New York Mets in the 34th round of the 1999 amateur draft. O'Sullivan spent parts of three seasons in the Mets farm system and another in the Baltimore Orioles. The 2010 season marks his second in the Northern League as he played 70 games for the Schaumburg Flyers in 2007. That season he batted .309 with 14 home runs and 58 RBI. He played collegiately at Austin Peay State University (Clarksville, TN).

McAllister, who won eight games for Kansas City in 2009, went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA during the week for the T-Bones. In his lone start, he went the distance hurling a complete game shutout versus Schaumburg on June 30th . In that game, he struck out 10 batters and yielded only four hits. On the way to his first career complete game and shutout, he retired 14 consecutive batters one point. On the year, he sits tied for fourth in the Northern League in wins (4) and is ninth in ERA (3.67).

McAllister, who is only 26-years-old, is playing his second season with the T-Bones. Last season he went 8-4 with two saves while his 4.43 ERA ranked seventh in the Northern League. He made his first career start on June 21st , 2009 and in all made eight starts on the year. As a starter, he went 5-2 with a 4.57 ERA in '09. He was one of the T-Bones best pitchers at the end of the season last year as he went 4-1 with 1.74 ERA last August.

The 6-2, 190-pounder was originally drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 34th round of the 2003 Draft, but did not sign. He went on to play collegiately at Edmonds Community College (Lynnwood, WA) and Oklahoma City University (Oklahoma City, OK) before signing as a free agent with the Boston Red Sox organization in 2007. He spent two seasons in the Red Sox farm system prior to signing with the T-Bones on April 27th , 2009. Playing his fourth professional season, he has a career mark of 16-9 with 11 saves and 4.04 ERA.
