Week Eight - Maroon Picking up Points

Left wing Patrick Maroon has been one of the most consistent forwards for the Crunch this season. Maroon has registered at least one points all but six of his 15 games this season. He currently leads the Crunch in points with 17 and is second in goals with eight. He is tied for 14th in the league in points. The St. Louis native was rewarded for his good play, making his NHL debut with Anaheim on October 25 in a 3-2 loss to the Blackhawks in Chicago. Maroon was in the starting lineup, playing alongside Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry. He finished the game with two penalty minutes. He played two days later in Minnesota against the Wild, going scoreless.

BODIE PLAYS IN 200th AHL GAME: Left wing Troy Bodie played in his 200thAHL game on Friday against the Hershey Bears. He became the sixth player on the current roster to eclipse 200 AHL games, joining Nathan Smith, Patrick Maroon, Sean Zimmerman, Mathieu Carle and Bryan Rodney. In 201 AHL games with Hamilton, Springfield, Iowa, San Antonio, Toronto and the Crunch, Bodie has compiled 58 points (33g, 25a) and 343 penalty minutes. This season, Bodie has a goal and an assist in 16 games. The Manitoba native was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the ninth round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

McGINNIS JOINS THE CRUNCH: The Crunch signed defenseman Ryan McGinnis to a standard player contract on Friday. He had spent the beginning of the season with Florida of the ECHL, registering five assists in 14 games. McGinnis comes to the Crunch with 71 games of AHL experience with Albany, Norfolk and Manitoba. He was originally drafted by Los Angeles in the sixth round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He played in both games this past weekend for the Crunch, going scoreless.

TRANSACTION: Defenseman Mike Ratchuk was released by the Crunch from his PTO, after playing in two games, and registering no points. It was Ratchuk's second stint with the Crunch, having played with the team during the 2009-10 season.

UPCOMING OPPONENTS:

WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON (PITTSBURGH PENGUINS): The Crunch face the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the second of eight meetings this season. In the first contest, the Penguins won 5-3 at the War Memorial on October 28. The Penguins have shot to the top of the East Division standings, backed by an eight-game winning streak between October 21 and November 11. However, they have faltered of late, losing four of their last five games, including a 3-1 decision to Worcester on Sunday. Three players are tied for the team lead with 14 points: Eric Tangradi, Bryan Lerg and Colin McDonald. Goalie Brad Thiessen is tied for second in the league with nine wins.

BINGHAMTON (OTTAWA SENATORS): Coming off of their first Calder Cup championship, the Binghamton Senators have been slow of out of the gate, four games under .500 and in last place in the East Division. On Friday, the Crunch and Senators will meet for the second out of eight times on the season. The first matchup was the Crunch's first game of the season, on October 14, and resulted in a 5-4 overtime win for Syracuse in Binghamton. Palmieri provided the game-winner in the extra session and added an assist. Prior to defeating Hamilton on Friday at the Bell Centre in Montreal, the Senators had lost a season-high eight straight games. Mark Parrish and Mike Hoffman are tied for the team lead with eight points. Former Crunch forward Nikita Filatov has recorded six goals and nine points in 12 games this season. Robin Lehner and Mike McKenna have split time in goal this season.

CRUNCHABLES: On Friday, the Crunch won their first game of the season when allowing the first goal of the game...Mathieu Carle recorded his first goal in a Crunch uniform on Friday...The Crunch have scored a power-play goal in all but four games this season. They rank third in the league on the power play at 26.8%.
