Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release
WINNIPEG, MB â The CFL today acknowledged the stellar play of Wayne Weathers against the Edmonton Eskimos by naming the defensive end its Player of the Week in the lineman category.
Weathers (6-4, 255, Manitoba '97, DOB: June 4, 1973 in Toronto, ON) totally dictated the outcome of the Week 18 battle between the West Division's two top sides.
Early in the 2nd Quarter, Edmonton trailed 7-0 to Winnipeg and was threatening to draw even on a 2nd-and-goal situation at the Blue Bombers three-yard line. Weathers pounced a John Avery fumble on the play to snuff out the Eskimos scoring threat.
Then 11 plays later, Weathers recovered a Jason Maas fumble in the Edmonton end zone to record his first CFL touchdown and his first score since his Grade 8 days in Oshawa, Ontario. The 14-point turnaround by Weathers insured Winnipeg's eventual 20-8 victory.
Weathers added two defensive tackles and a quarterback sack to his totals on the day.
