CFL Honors Week's Top Players
Published on November 6, 2002 under Canadian Football League (CFL) News Release
CFL Offensive Player-of-the-Week
Reggie Slack #14
QB â Toronto Argonauts
Excellent leadership, 26 of 35 passes. Completed for 318 yards and 3 touchdowns, 5 rushes for 40 yards.
Game: #90 âCalgary Stampeders 32 at Toronto Argonauts 33
"Reggie knows how to play the quarterback position and has a good feel for the game. He knew where his receivers should be and when to go there. In this game he was sharp, his athleticism was impressive. He moved around the pocket and threw accurately on the run. The only flaw on his game was an interception that had bounced off his receiver's hands."
Runners Up: Toronto - WR - Ted Alford # 82
B.C. - RB - Sean Millington # 25
CFL Player of the Week Judge: Ellison Kelly
CFL Defensive Player-of-the-Week
Tony Walker #39
DB - B.C. Lions
2 big interceptions, 4 tackles, 1 knock down & 1 special team tackle
Game: #87 - Saskatchewan Roughriders 3 at B.C. Lions 28
"He filled the gaps surprisingly fast, took good angles to the ball and just made plays. His first interception set up Millington's first touchdown, the second one ended a Roughrider threat. The best part of his game was the way he played the pass while in their zone defence. His range was outstanding and he showed a knack for the interception. "
Runners Up: Toronto - DB - Antonious Bonner # 10
Ottawa - DB - George McCullough # 29
CFL Player of the Week Judge: Ellison Kelly
CFL Players-of-the-Week - Week 19 ....
CFL Lineman-of-the-Week
Wayne Weathers #99
DL - Winnipeg Blue Bombers
2 fumble recoveries, 1 for touchdown, 2 tackles, and a lot of pressure on the passer.
Game: #88 - Edmonton Eskimos 8 at Winnipeg Blue Bombers 20
"He was a force that no one could handle. He was around the ball all afternoon because no one could move him off the line. He overpowered would-be blockers and made big pile-ups at the point of attack. Whenever a ball was knocked loose, he was on it quickly because they couldn't move him out of the area. I expect he will see a lot of double teams in the playoff."
Runners Up: B.C. - DE - Herman Smith # 91
B.C. - C - Jamie Taras # 60
CFL Player of the Week Judge: Ellison Kelly
CFL Special Teams Player-of-the-Week
Marcelous Turner #27
RB - Ottawa Renegades
8 punt returns for 198 yards & 1 touchdown.
Game: #89 â Ottawa Renegades 26 at Montreal Alouettes 25
"Both the defensive unit and the special teams had outstanding games for the Renegades as they were the main reason for the upset victory. If I had to choose a single player who I felt was the most responsible for the victory, I would pick Marcelous Turner. He provided them with outstanding field position all afternoon and gave them a chance to put points on the board."
Runners Up: Calgary - RB - Antonio Warren #6
Toronto - P/K - Noel Prefontaine #1
CFL Player of the Week Judge: Ellison Kelly
