Wausau Woodchucks News Release

WAUSAU-June 16, 2011-The Woodchucks lost the final game of a five-game home stand Wednesday night, losing 9-6 and being swept in a short two-game set with the Waterloo Bucks.

After a day-long rainstorm delayed the game's start by 90 minutes, Richard Klein took the mound for the 'Chucks, and allowed a one-out grand-slam to Sebastian Grazziani- putting the Woodchucks down early once again, 4-0.

After allowing an unearned run in the third inning, Waterloo would take a five-run lead to the fourth, where Waterloo starter Mike Wisecarver would relinquish a run. Mike Gerber - who went three for five with two doubles - singled, stole a bag, and scored on Kyle DeMerritt's first RBI single of the night.

New arrival Justin Burns took over for Klein into the fourth inning, would give up two more Waterloo runs in the sixth - allowing Thomas Lindauer to walk and Sebastian Grazziani to single - before Davis Hendrickson would hit an RBI double, and Andrew Ewing would plate another run on an RBI groundout.

Down 7-1, the 'Chucks would hand a crooked number and make it a one run ballgame, scoring five in the bottom of the sixth.

Austin Coleman would lead off with a single, as Mike Gerber followed with a booming double. After a Tyler Heineman RBI groundout, Kyle DeMerritt would hit his second consecutive RBI single, before Robbie De La Cruz would smash an RBI double. Seth Batty and Danny Susdorf would follow with a walk and single, before De La Cruz and Batty would score on as Shain Stoner reached on a fielding error - making the score 7-6, Bucks.

Reinvigorating a team which lost field manager Guido Aspeitia and star hitter Carlos Escobar to ejections in the second inning, the Woodchucks would be delivered a back-breaking, two-out, two-run homerun from Waterloo designated hitter Jeremy Hill in the top of the seventh- giving the Bucks a 9-6 lead.

Waterloo reliever Kyle Kramp - who took the save in Tuesday night's game - came on to pitch the seventh, and shut the door on the Woodchucks, taking his second consecutive save, facing only two batters over the minimum through the final three innings.

Richard Klein (1-1) took the loss for the 'Chucks, as Mike Wisecarver improved to 1-0 for Waterloo.

After winning four of six coming into the two-game set with Waterloo, the 'Chucks have dropped two in a row- as they travel to Wisconsin Rapids (3-11) for game one of an away-home two-game series.

The Woodchucks fell to 5-9 on the season - good for seventh place in the South Division - while the Bucks improved to 8-7, tied for third place.

Derek Howell will take on the Rafters Thursday night at Witter Field, as the first pitch takes place at 7:05.

The 'Chucks will return home Friday, with the first pitch coming at 6:35, for game two with the last-place Rafters.
