Green Bay Rockers News Release
Frogville, WI - June 16th, 2011 - The Bullfrogs have the best pitching staff in the Northwoods League and they proved it on Thursday night at Joannes Stadium by shutting out the best offense in the NWL in the Madison Mallards. The 'Frogs had a season-high 15 hits and two home runs in the 9-0 win.
Green Bay put the game away in the seventh and eighth innings with a combined seven runs in the two innings. The Bullfrogs busted it open in the seventh with a three-run pinch hit home run to make it 5-0. In the eighth, Mallards reliever Zach White had struck out four consecutive hitters to end the seventh and to begin the eighth. Ty Filliebn and Jacob May then hit back to back doubles. The next four hitters all had singles to drive in two more runs to make the game 9-0.
Josh Martin started for the Bullfrogs and got his second consecutive win with a five inning shutout. The Mallards had their chances. They put a runner on base in every inning except the ninth and stranded a total of ten base runners. The bullpen was lights out once again. They tossed four shutout innings; three from Mark Garcia and one from John Colella in a perfect ninth inning.
Green Bay got on the board in the second inning when Cameron Dullnig hit a solo home run to lead off the second. It is the third consecutive game that the Bullfrogs have homered. Joe Betcher drove in a run to make it 2-0 in the fifth with a RBI double. Betcher has four RBI in the last two games. Mallards' starter Cash Collins had allowed just one run in his first two starts of the year but allowed four on Thursday to fall to 2-1. Green Bay's bullpen has not allowed a run in 10.1 innings pitched. The Bullfrogs are just a half game back of the first-place Battle Creek Bombers and tied for second with the Mallards.
