June 16, 2011 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Madison Mallards News Release
MADISON, WI - June 16, 2011. The Madison Mallards are back on the road Thursday as they head to Green Bay for a quick one-game stay against the Bullfrogs at Johannes Stadium, beginning at 7:05 p.m.
Winners of four of their last six, the Mallards are 9-5 and sit one-half game behind Battle Creek in the South Division standings. The team appears to be on the right track, especially offensively.
After losing some heartbreakers in which they failed to score, the Mallards have racked up a total of 42 runs over their last six games, the most in any six-game span this season. Eleven of those runs came in the first inning of Wednesday's win over Eau Claire.
As of Thursday, the team was leading the entire Northwoods League in batting average (.299), and was third in both hits (146) and runs scored (84).
Leading the Mallards' offense into Green Bay is Justin Scanlon (Michigan State). After tallying a hit in Wednesday's game, Scanlon now has 15 hits in 32 at-bats, good for a .469 batting average, best on the team. Tyler Jones (Long Island) is hitting .333 and hopes to continue his strong season after lining a three-run home run to left field against Eau Claire.
The Mallards have seven total players hitting over .300 going into Thursday night.
Thursday's game also saw the most runs the Mallards have given up all season. Looking to reverse that fortune against Green Bay is Cash Collins (Wofford). Collins (2-0) has won both of his starts, pitching 12.2 innings and allowing only run on seven hits in that span.
Following Thursday's game, the Mallards will return home for one game against the Bullfrogs on Friday and two against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters over the weekend.
