Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, MB December 15, 2009 - Waste Management of Canada (WM) together with program partners Western Hockey League (WHL) and Big Brothers and Sisters of Brandon are sending local child and youth members to Brandon Wheat Kings hockey games throughout the month of December. For many, it will be their first opportunity to experience a live WHL game.

"It's an event they'll remember for a lifetime," says WM's Cam Hantiuk, Director of Public Affairs for Western Canada. "Waste Management's Tickets for Kids program is an opportunity for us to put a smile on the face of a child who deserves a break. In addition to the fun factor, being able to go to a WHL game sends a message to the child that they are indeed a valued part of the community, they are wanted and they belong."

WM has been a proud sponsor of the WHL since 2006 and since then has been connecting with youth organizations to see that kids, who otherwise wouldn't have the chance, get to experience the excitement of a live WHL game. Hundreds of at-risk youth have been positively impacted by this program in communities across Western Canada and the response from them and their mentors has been overwhelming.

Commitment to improving the communities where we live, work and play is what aligns WM's Tickets for Kids program with youth service agencies like Big Brothers and Sisters of Brandon. Knowing that a child is able to participate in a unique experience and cheer on their home town heroes makes it all worthwhile.

"The tickets donated by Waste Management are appreciated by everyone here at Big Brothers and Sisters but especially the kids," says Executive Director Carla Black. "The cost of Wheat Kings tickets makes them out of reach for most of these kids who have never had an opportunity to attend a game. It's a real boost for them to go."
