Washington Wild Things News Release

The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, completed their doubleheader with the River City Rascals and swept the series with a 6-0 win Friday night at Falconi Field.

Washington starter Tom Cochran dominated the Rascals for his second complete game shutout of the season. Cochran allowed only five hits in the seven inning game with nine strikeouts.

Both teams were scoreless in the first three innings of the game, but in the fourth the Wild Things broke the tie with four runs. Designated hitter Lance Koenig scored from first on a Rascals' fielding error when centerfielder Jason Boyd had the ball roll passed him.

Wild Things' catcher Matt Bok continued his hot hitting with a bloop RBI single down the third base line to bring Washington's lead to 2-0. Centerfielder Chris Sidick smacked his fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot, over the video board in right field with two outs to increase the Wild Things' lead to four.

Washington added two more runs in the sixth via a two-run double by shortstop Jason Bucholtz.

The Wild Things (39-26) have won five in a row and are 18-3 after the All-Star Break. On Saturday, Washington will open a three game series against the Gateway Grizzlies. It's Retro Jersey Night, see the players wearing Retro-Jerseys. Plus the first 1,000 fans will receive the third baseball card strip.
