River City Rascals News Release

WASHINGTON, PA - The River City Rascals were swept for the second time this season in a getaway day double header dropping both ends by scores of 8-7 and 6-0. Washington's bottom four in their starting lineup collected 12 hits and scored 10 runs over both ends of the twin bill to secure the victory for the hometown WildThings.

In game one, Aaron Ledbetter struggled for the third straight start giving up seven runs, six of which were earned, on nine hits but was bailed out by a three-run homer off the bat of Eric Chevalier. For Chevalier, it was his team-leading 7th blast of the season and tied the game at seven against Washington closer Jim Popp. Popp would escape the first game with a win however as Mike Arbinger delivered a game-winning single that scored Chris Carter with the winning run off of Cam Cheek to give the WildThings an 8-7 win.

In the nightcap, Washington scored four times in the bottom of the 4th inning off of Brian Johnson who was making his first start of the 2006 season. Johnson, who had made 17 relief appearances this season with River City, gave up three straight singles and the 2nd home run of the day by Chris Sidick put the Rascals in a four-run hole. Sidick led off the first game of the twin bill with his 4th home run of the season.

Johnson took the loss after going five innings allowing the four runs on nine hits falling to 1-2 on the season.

The Rascals return home for a six-game homestand beginning on Saturday, August 5th when they host the Windy City Thunderbolts for the first and only time this season at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. Saturday's game will be Rascals Baseball Card Night presented by Pepsi which will begin at 7:05. The first 1,000 fans entering the ballpark will receive and official 2006 River City Rascals team set sponsored by Pepsi. There are still good seats available and parking at the Ballpark is always free. For tickets, call 636-240-BATS or order online at www.rivercityrascals.com
