Wild Things Take Game One of Doubleheader over Rascals
August 4, 2006 - Frontier League (FL)
Washington Wild Things News Release
The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, took game one of the doubleheader against the River City Rascals by the score of 8-7.
After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first, the Wild Things pulled even when center fielder Chris Sidick launched a lead off Homerun. Later in the inning Washington took the lead, when third baseman Pat Peavey drove in second baseman Nick Massari with a sacrifice fly.
The Wild Things continued to add to their lead in the bottom of the second, as designated hitter Matt Bok drove in catcher Lance Koenig with an RBI double. Bok and shortstop Jason Bucholtz lead the offensive charge for the Wild Things, going a combined 5-6 and driving in five of Washington's eight runs.
With Bok and Bucholtz leading the way on the offense side, reliever Stephen Spragg took over on the mound throwing three innings of one hit ball, as the Wild Things took a 7-4 lead into seventh inning. Because this was a seven inning contest, closer Jim Popp entered the game looking for the save. However, the not so little Rascals lineup pounded out three hits off of Popp, including a three run homerun by right fielder Eric Chevalier to tie the score up at 7-7.
However, with the playoffs drawing ever closer the resilient Wild Things were not about to let this one slip away. Left fielder Chris Carter drew a one out walk, and advanced to second on a Pat Peavey groundout, to set the stage for right fielder Mike Arbinger. Arbinger was up to challenge dropping a single up the middle, to score Carter and give the Wild Things the 8-7 victory.
