Washington Wild Things News Release

AVON, OH-The Wild Things were unable to come out on top in the final game of their three-game series with the Lake Erie Crushers, falling by a final score of 3-7 on Sunday, June 14.

After multiple rain delays held up any progress at All Pro Freight Stadium, Daniel Poma scored the first run for Washington off of a wild pitch in the top of the third. Lake Erie answered right back with run of their own in the latter half of the inning off an RBI single from Joey Burney.

The Wild Things were able to hold the Crushers from scoring again until the sixth inning when Lake Erie took the lead with three unearned runs. A bases loaded triple from Frank Desico in the bottom of the seventh gave Lake Erie a 7-1 lead heading into the top of the eighth.

Washington cut the deficit to five runs in their next at bat thanks to a sacrifice fly from Brady North. The Wild Things added another run in the top of the ninth when Jim Vahalik scored on an Austin Wobrock sacrifice, but the Crushers were able to hold on for the Sunday afternoon victory by a 7-3 margin.

The Wild Things will return to CONSOL Energy Park on Tuesday, June 16 to start off a three-game series against the Southern Illinois Miners. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.pm.
