CRESTWOOD, IL - Max White hit two home runs and led the ThunderBolts to their seventh straight win as they beat the Gateway Grizzlies 9-5 at Standard Bank Stadium Sunday afternoon.
The ThunderBolts (12-13) scored three runs in the first inning, the seventh time in the last ten games that they have scored in the first. With Two outs, Mike Torres stood at second base when Austin Gallagher walked. Jacob Tanis singled home Torres and Marquis Riley singled home Gallagher. Tanis would score on a wild pitch. Torres's sacrifice fly made it 4-0 in the second.
The Grizzlies (7-20) got on the board in the third when Cody Livesay singled and Rolando Gomez scored him on a double.
The Bolts responded quickly as Gallagher clubbed his first home run of the year in the bottom of the third. After Tanis singled and Riley reached on an error, White launched the first of his two longballs to make the score 8-1.
Gateway got a run back on four hits in the fifth. Livesay's single scored Grant Buckner to make it 8-2.
White put the ThunderBolts right back ahead by seven when he hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth.
The Grizzlies scored their final runs in the seventh. Tyler Tewell followed back-to-back walks with a three-run homer to cut the lead to 9-5, but Gateway could not mount another rally.
Travis Tingle (2-4) picked up the win, going six innings and allowing two runs while Kevin Sweeney (0-2) could not make it out of the third and took the loss.
The win gave the ThunderBolts a 7-1 homestand and their seven-game winning streak is their longest since 2010.
The Bolts will continue their Frontier League schedule on Wednesday when they head to Evansville to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Bosse Field with the Otters. Before the trip, they will take on the Chicago Bandits in a Battle of the Sexes softball game on Monday night at Standard Bank Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 and that broadcast can be heard on WXAV 88.3-FM and wxav.com.
