
Rascals Out-Belt Normal

O'Fallon, MO - After an 87 minute rain delay, the Rascals (16-10) walked off 8-7 in the 10th inning to defeat the Normal CornBelters (16-10) on Saturday, June 13 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. The Rascals have won four straight games.
With the game tied 7-7 in the bottom of the 10th inning, RF Josh Silver singled with one out. A groundout advanced Silver to second base with two outs. CF Curran Redal then singled to centerfield, and Silver scored to win the game. It is the first walk off win for the Rascals this season, and they are now 2-1 in extra innings.
RHP Beau Kerns made his professional debut for the Rascals tonight. He received a no-decision after tossing 4.0 innings. The Lewis-Clark State College alumnus allowed five runs, eight hits, and two walks while striking out three batters.
The CornBelters scored first and in each of the first four innings. In the top of the first inning, Patrick McKenna, Aaron Dudley, and Richard Lucas hit three straight two-out singles, with Lucas' scoring McKenna. Sam Judah then hit an RBI double, giving Normal a 2-0 lead.
The Rascals responded with a run in the bottom of the inning. Redal led off with a single, his fourth straight game leading off with a base hit. LF Jackson Slaid singled next, and C Josh Ludy singled home Redal. Ludy extended his hit streak to five games and has an RBI in six consecutive contests.
Jason Merjano led off the Normal half of the second inning with a walk. Two straight singles loaded the bases with one out, and McKenna hit an RBI sacrifice fly.
Lucas hit a solo homerun in the third inning, extending the Belters advantage to 4-1.
The Rascals scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. Ludy walked, and DH Danny Canela singled with one out. Then 3B Taylor Ard was hit by a pitch to load the bases. 2B Hector Crespo singled home a run, and 1B Zach Kometani hit into a fielder's choice that plated Canela from third base.
Cameron Monger hit Normal's second homer of the night, a solo shot in the fourth inning.
SS Johnny Morales hit his first homer of the season, a solo homerun, in the bottom of the sixth inning. The game was then delayed nearly an hour and a half due to rain after the sixth inning.
Normal added to its lead in the top of the eighth inning. Jason Merjano and Steve Sulcoski each singled, and Monger doubled in Merjano from second base.
The Rascals took their first lead of the night in the bottom of the eighth. Kometani singled, and Silver doubled. Then with two outs, Redal was intentionally walked to load the bases. Slaid followed with a bases-clearing single, putting the Rascals ahead 7-6.
McKenna tied the game in the top of the ninth inning with a solo homer, though, sending the game into extra innings.
RHP Zeb Sneed (W, 2-0) pitched the ninth and tenth innings. He blew the save opportunity but earned his second victory. RHP Chandler Jagodzinski tossed 2.0 scoreless innings of relief, and RHP Heith Hatfield added 1.0 shutout frame. RHP Derek Cape surrendered one run in 1.0 innings of work.
Normal starter Kevin Johnson surrendered three runs and seven hits over 5.0 innings. Race Parmenter (L, 0-1) threw 2.2 innings out of the bullpen, blowing the save and taking the loss. Ross Spurgeon ceded one run in 1.0 inning, and Horatio Acosta provided 1.0 scoreless inning.
The Rascals will go for the sweep of the Normal CornBelters on Sunday, June 14 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark at 4:05 p.m. CST.
