Kinston Takes Game One 2-1; Warthogs Answer With a 2-0 Shutout in Game Two All four starting pitchers with quality outings as home season ends for Warthogs at Ernie Shore Field Winston-Salem, NC - In a battle of dominant starting pitching, Winston-Salem and Kinston split a doubleheader on Friday night with the Indians winnings game one and the Warthogs taking the second game. Chuck Lofgren pitched Kinston to a 2-1 victory in game one to earn his league-best 17th win of the season. Warthogs starting pitcher Derek Rodriguez tossed six shutout innings to lead Winston-Salem to a 2-0 win in the nightcap, which was the final game of the 2006 season at Ernie Shore Field.

In game one, Argenis Reyes hit his first home run of the year to give Kinston a 1-0 lead in the third inning. The pitchers duel continued into the seventh inning when the Indians took advantage of two errors by Warthogs third baseman Cory Haggerty to load the bases. Warthogs' reliever Jay Marshall tossed a wild pitch to score John Drennen and give Kinston a 2-0 advantage.

Josh Hansen hit a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the Kinston lead in half at 2-1. Indians closer finished off the game and collected his sixth save of the season. Lofgren (17-5), who was recently named Carolina League pitcher of the year, tossed five plus shutout innings to earn the win. Warthogs' starter Kyle McCulloch (2-5) was the tough luck loser after allowing only one run in six innings.

In the nightcap, Warthogs starter Derek Rodriguez (1-1) pitched six shutout innings and struck out eight to earn his first win with Winston-Salem. David Cook hit a pair of RBI singles to produce the offense for Winston-Salem, who was perfect on the base paths with four stolen bases. Fernando Hernandez pitched a perfect ninth inning to collect his 13th save of the season.

The Warthogs will travel to Woodbridge, Virginia to take on the Potomac Nationals in a three-game series to conclude the 2006 season. Game one is scheduled to begin at 6 PM on Saturday.
