Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
Wilmington, DE --- Wilmington Blue Rocks closer Mike James has been named to the Carolina League year end All-Star Team. James, the only relief pitcher named, leads the league with 24 saves on the season.
James, who was also selected in the mid-season Carolina-California League All-Star Game, is the only Blue Rocks player to be named to the year-end All-Star squad. Through August 31, the right-hander has appeared in 47 games and compiled a record of 2-1 with a 1.85 ERA over 48.2 innings.
James leads the league in saves and is a perfect 24-for-24 in save opportunities. The 25-year-old has also struck out 50 and walked just 19. Drafted in the 28th round by the Red Sox in the 2004 draft, James is in his third professional season as a pitcher.
James is currently tied for second in Blue Rocks franchise history with 24 saves in a single season. Jeff Smith saved 24 games for the Rocks in 1993 and Ryan Braun saved 24 in 2004. Steve Prihoda holds the Blue Rocks single-season record with 25 saves, coming in 1996.
Voting was done by league managers, general managers and media. The complete year-end All-Star Team, with stats through August 30:
