
Kinston Splits Double Header

Kinston Indians News Release
Kinston's Chuck Lofgren (17-5) won his Minor League Leading 17th game of the season as Kinston beat Winston-Salem 2-1 in game one of a double header on Saturday night. Lofgren went five and two-thirds innings, giving up no earned runs while striking out three. Argenis Reyes hit his first home run of the season in the third inning, to put Kinston on top 1-0. In the top of the seventh Johnny Drennen cashed a big insurance run, scoring from third base on a wild pitch. Kyle Collins came in to pick up his sixth save of the season. Randy Newsom got Kinston out of jam, by striking out the Warthogs Chris Kelly with two on in the sixth inning.
In game two, Kinston's bats were silenced as Winston-Salem shutout the K-Tribe 2-0. Kinston managed just two hits in game two. Joe Ness was the tough luck loser, pitching four and two thirds innings, giving up just one earned run. Winston-Salem got all the runs they needed when Victor Mercedes scored on a David Cook RBI single in the first. Derek Rodriguez (1-1) picked up the win for the Warthogs.
Kinston travels to Myrtle Beach for a three game Labor Day Weekend series. Scott Lewis takes the mound for Kinston on Saturday, game time 7PM.
