WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Despite 13 hits from the offense, the Winston-Salem Warthogs fell to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans 7-6 on Wednesday night at BB&T Ballpark.

Sporting the Warthogs moniker in honor of the team's previous moniker, Winston-Salem (2-5, 40-31) had five players rack up multiple hits. Steele Walker led the way with three hits and two RBIs. Walker is now 21-for-51 (.411) in his last 12 games, and he is currently on a nine-game hitting streak.

Along with Walker, Yeyson Yrizarri, Tate Blackman, Craig Dedelow and Carlos Perez racked up multi-hit games, with Yrizarri and Blackman both notching RBI doubles.

Myrtle Beach (2-5, 23-51) scored in short order against Warthogs starter Konnor Pilkington. Zach Davis led off the ballgame by singling up the middle before an errant pickoff attempt by Pilkington allowed him to reach third. The next batter, Jimmy Herron, bounced a single through the left side to score Davis and make it 1-0.

The Pelicans added two more in the top of the third. To lead off the frame, Yeiler Peguero singled into center field before moving to second on a sacrifice bunt by Davis. Herron then lined a single into center field to score Peguero. With Herron at first, Miguel Amaya smacked a double into left-center to score Herron and push the lead to 3-0.

Winston-Salem struck back in the bottom of the third against Myrtle Beach starter Ryan Kellogg. With one out, Blackman singled before coming around to score on an RBI double by Yrizarri. Then, Tyler Frost was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second. Following a strikeout by Mitch Roman, Walker ripped a double into left-center field to score Yrizarri and Frost, tying the game at three.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Warthogs added three more runs. Following a Zach Remillard strikeout, Dedelow and Perez hit back-to-back singles. Blackman then smacked a double to left to score Dedelow and give Winston-Salem a 4-3 lead.

Following Blackman's double, Yrizarri blooped an RBI single to right to make it 5-3 Warthogs. Frost then bounced a single through the left side to score Blackman and increase the lead to three runs.

The Pelicans responded with a big inning of their own in the top of the sixth. To start off the frame, Luke Reynolds walked and Cam Balego singled to put runners at first and second. Carlos Sepulveda then hit a bunt single, but an errant throw by the third baseman Yrizarri allowed Reynolds to score to make it 6-4. With Balego and Sepulveda aboard, Tyler Payne crushed a three-run homer to left, giving the Pelicans a 7-6 lead.

After the Pelicans took the lead, the Warthogs were unable to score against Enrique De Los Rios (1-0) and Garrett Kelly. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Walker hit a deep fly ball to right field, but Herron jumped to make the catch at the warning track, ending the ballgame.

The Dash begin a four-game set at Salem on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Zach Lewis (4-3, 6.61 ERA) will take the hill for Winston-Salem against fellow righty Bryan Mata (3-1, 1.79 ERA). Pregame coverage begins at 6:50 p.m., and fans can catch all of the action on the Sports Hub Triad (101.5 FM and 600 AM), MiLB.tv and the TuneIn Radio App.

Following a seven-game road trip to Salem and Down East, the Dash return to BB&T Ballpark for a six-game homestand from July 4-9 against the Fayetteville Woodpeckers and Frederick Keys. The homestand begins with the annual Fourth of July Extravaganza, presented by the City of Winston-Salem, with festivities beginning at 4:30 p.m. and concluding with the city's official fireworks show.
