Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

The Moose Jaw Warriors fought hard for 60 minutes but came up short Friday at Mosaic Place as they fell 3-0 to the Saskatoon Blades.

In the first period, the Warriors did a good job hunting pucks it the Saskatoon zone which led to plenty of attack time and quality chances.

Moose Jaw outshot the Blades 10-8 in the opening period but due to the play of goalies Boston Bilous and Nolan Maier, the game remained scoreless heading to the first intermission.

Saskatoon picked up the pace in the second period which led to plenty of attack time in the Moose Jaw Warriors zone.

Getting to the six-minute mark, the Blades pushed the puck up the ice to 20-year-old Riley McKay who put a shot just under the crossbar to get Saskatoon on the board.

Late in the period, the Warriors were put on the power-play.  There was a scramble beside the Saskatoon net and the puck came to Cayde Augustine between the circles.

The defenceman put the puck to the back of the Saskatoon net with 1:28 remaining in the frame.  With Moose Jaw celebrating, all eyes were focused on the officials who had called the goal off for incident contact on the goalie, which meant they went into the second intermission down by one.

In the third, the Warriors continued to fight but they were not able to finish on the chances they developed.

On the other side, the Blades scored a late power-play goal and added another goal inside in the final two minutes.

Warriors goalie Boston Bilous made 30 saves while Saskatoon's Nolan Maier made 20 in the shutout.

Moose Jaw was 0-for-3 on the power-play and 1-for-2 on the penalty kill.

Moose Jaw's weekend continues Saturday when they open their February schedule against Adam Evanoff, Brayden Tracey, and the Victoria Royals.

Tickets are available at the Mosaic Place Box Office or at www.mjwarriors.ca.
