Warriors Start Final Stretch in Brandon

April 9, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

The Moose Jaw Warriors will finish the regular season with four straight road games.

The final stretch begins on Saturday in Brandon with the first of two back-to-back games against the Wheat Kings at Westoba Place.

"It's a business trip, so we just have to start fast and finish hard again," Warriors head coach Mark O'Leary said.

That's what the Warriors did the last time they hit the ice, when they knocked off the league-leading Winnipeg ICE, 3-1, in the final home game of the regular season at Mosaic Place last Saturday.

Now the Warriors look to carry that momentum over to the final stretch of the regular season.

"We've just got to play hard and finish strong," Warriors forward Ryder Korczak reiterated.

The Warriors enter the last four regular season games with a chance to lock up home ice advantage in the first round of the 2022 WHL Playoffs. Moose Jaw sits one point back of Saskatoon, but has three games in hand on the Blades.

"If we take care of our own business, in terms of winning the games we need to, then we'll be sitting in a pretty good spot going into the playoffs," O'Leary said.

Coming off last Saturday's win over Winnipeg, O'Leary said the Warriors have had a good week of practice to hopefully build off that momentum.

"We've attacked practice how we attack a game and that goes down to our fast start mentality," he said. "The mindset that we've tried to develop through the course of the year, start fast and finish hard and that's what we intend to do [in Brandon]."

Korczak said the Warriors' confidence is high right now, but know there's still work to be done.

"We've got to take care of business," he said. "We need to play fast, when we play fast, we're unbeatable, so that's the key for us."

O'Leary said when the Warriors play to their identity, which is winning races and battles, the team is hard to beat.

"The last time we played in Brandon, we played to our identity right from the get-go and we sustained it for 60 minutes, so it comes down to our mentality going in."

The Warriors square off with the Wheat Kings on Saturday night at 6 p.m. Saskatchewan time.

Tune into all the action with Voice of the Warriors James Gallo on Country 100, starting with the Pre-Game Show at 5:40 p.m.

Moose Jaw will travel back to Brandon on Tuesday before heading to Lethbridge next Friday and then finish up the regular season against the Pats in Regina next Sunday.
