Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips, powered by Alex Swetlikoff's hat trick, clinched their ninth U.S. Division title in franchise history with a 5-2 victory in front of 7,377 fans at Angel of the Winds Arena Friday night.
Despite being outshot 13-0 in the first 12:30 of play, Tri-City found the back of the net first as Deagan McMillan bounced a loose puck at the left post past Braden Holt for his third career goal. Alex Swetlikoff would answer at 15:12 while on the powerplay, re-directing a Michal Gut pass to the doorstep to even the score.
Chase Friedt-Mohr would give the lead back to the Americans early in the second period, rifling a slap shot for a 2-1 advantage. Swetlikoff would respond just 34 seconds later, depositing his second goal of the game. He completed the patented Everett Taco Hat Trick at 17:22 in the second period, poking in a powerplay goal for his 33rd tally of the year and a 3-2 Everett lead.
Michal Gut would extend the lead to 4-2 with 33 seconds remaining in the frame with a powerplay goal of his own, his 16th marker of the season.
Jackson Berezowski contributed an empty-net goal in the final second of play to seal a 5-2 win. He now has 46 goals on the season, one off the team single-season record set in 2013-14 by Joshua Winquist. Braden Holt stopped 11 of 13 in the win, his 24th win of the season.
This is the sixth time in the last eight years that the Silvertips have won the U.S. Division title.
The Silvertips hold home-ice advantage for the first round of the WHL Playoffs. Games 1 and 2 are set for Friday at 7:05 p.m. and Saturday at 6:05 p.m. Individual game tickets and six-game packages are available.
