Moose Jaw Warriors News Release
Moose Jaw, SK - The Moose Jaw Warriors and Saskatoon Blades will close out their home-and-home set on Friday night in the Bridge City.
The Warriors are coming off a wild 9-6 win over the Blades on Tuesday in downtown Moose Jaw.
Warriors head coach Mark O'Leary said that win was a good confidence builder for the team.
"If you're scoring goals, you're doing something right," he said. "The coaches are going to dwell on the goals against, that's our job to clean those things up, but at the same time, we don't want to take any of that offensive instincts away."
Moose Jaw is now 2-0 against Saskatoon in the season series between the two clubs. The Warriors also moved one point back of the Blades for first place in the East Division with Tuesday's win, setting up another important game on Friday.
Warriors forward Jagger Firkus said these two teams know that they will be butting heads all season long.
"We have a little rivalry against them, it's a team that everyone gets up to play against," he said. "There's a lot of players on that team that we don't hate, but they're not our favourites throughout the league and it's a good rivalry.
"I enjoy playing them, everyone makes sure that we're ready for it because we know they're going to bring their A-game against us."
The first meeting between the two teams was a close battle that the Warriors pulled out a 3-1 win in Saskatoon, meaning this week's offensive explosion isn't indicative of what to expect on Friday.
O'Leary said the Warriors will be focused on tightening up in a few areas.
"Our penalty kill details, we got away from it for a period there and it was a big part of their offence," he said.
"For me, it's the same two things, it's tracking the rush, I still think we can clean that up a little bit, especially against a team like Saskatoon and it's managing the puck, if we manage pucks and track the rush, we give ourselves a real chance."
The Warriors and Blades meet at 7 p.m. on Friday night at SaskTel Centre.
