Cougars Battle Giants to Begin Mini BC Road Trip

Tonight, at the Langley Events Centre, the Prince George Cougars take on the Vancouver Giants for the third consecutive time. Tonight also kicks off a mini BC road trip for the Cats as they will wrap up in Kelowna tomorrow night.

Prince George is coming off a 6-1 setback on Wednesday night to the Giants. Ondrej Becher had the lone Cougar tally, while Ty Young made 24 saves on 30 shots.

ROLLIN RILEY:

With an assist on Wednesday night, Cougar forward Riley Heidt has collected points in 12 consecutive games. The Minnesota Wild 2nd round pick in 2023 owns 21 points on this streak which consists of six goals and 15 assists. Heidt's assist also has put him just one point behind Quinn Hancock for 9th-all time in franchise history in points. The Saskatoon, SK product sits 5th all-time in assists with 136 and sits just one helper behind alumnus Nick Drazenovic for 4th all-time.

CHL TOP TEN:

The Cougars were ranked 2nd in the CHL Top 10 - Week 7. In their lone game of last week, the Cougars (13-5-0-0) edged the Red Deer Rebels 4-3 in a shootout on Friday, November 10th.. Ondrej Becher scored twice before later tallying the shootout winner to lift Prince George to its seventh victory in 10 games. This marks the second consecutive week the Cougars are ranked 2nd in the CHL Top Ten.

ON THE ROAD BY THE NUMBERS:

The Cougars enter tonight with a 5-3 road record. Prince George sports the third best power-play in the WHL on the road, converting at 29.3 percent, along with a 89.5% percent penaltiy kill which sits second in the league. The most recent road game came two weeks ago in Prince Albert, where Prince George defeated the Raiders 5-0.

ON THE OTHER SIDE:

With the Giants win on Wednesday, it snapped a three-game losing streak. Jaden Lipinski led the way offensively scoring three times, while goaltender Brett Mirwald was solid, making 38 saves and was named the games second star. Adam Titlbach, Ty Halaburda, and Jakob Oreskovic also added goals for the Giants.

INJURY UPDATES:

Forward Carlin Dezainde remains sidelined indefinitely with an upper body injury.

The Cougars will wrap up their mini BC road trip tomorrow in Kelowna to take on the Rockets at 7:05pm at Prospera Place.
