Medicine Hat, AB - Two power play goals and a pair of shorthanded markers helped get the Moose Jaw Warriors back into the win column on Saturday night.

The Warriors skated to a hard fought 4-3 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers at Co-op Place to split the team's weekend road trip to Alberta.

The win was a strong bounce back performance for Moose Jaw after falling in Lethbridge on Friday.

"The response was huge," Warriors assistant coach Curtis Pereverzoff said. "First and foremost, the compete level lines one through four, all six D, the compete was great."

Brayden Yager scored two shorthanded goals for the Warriors, opening the scoring late in the first period and then potting the eventual game-winner late in the second.

Jagger Firkus helped set up both shorthanded goals.

Pereverzoff said that duo's high hockey IQ was on display with both goals.

"They do a very good job of anticipating the play and their skill levels take over," he said.

Kalem Parker and Martin Rysavy found the back of the net on the power play only 1:18 apart midway through the second to help the Warriors jump out in front.

Those were the first power play goals for the Warriors in the previous two games.

"The main thing for us is just not to try to be too cute with it, just make simple plays, get the puck towards the net and then having some skilled players who can make those plays to put the puck in the back of the net helps," Pereverzoff said.

Jackson Unger made 31 saves to backstop the Warriors to the win, including eight saves in the third period as Medicine Hat pressed for an equalizer.

"He was huge for us," Pereverzoff said.

The Warriors finished the night 2-for-6 with the man advantage and went 2-for-3 on the penalty kill, including the two shorthanded goals.

Moose Jaw will now make the trip home and get set for a busy week at the Moose Jaw Events Centre, starting on Tuesday when the Calgary Hitmen come to town.
