Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

Edmonton, AB - The Moose Jaw Warriors head to Alberta for a two-game weekend aiming to keep their strong play going.

The Warriors enter the weekend sitting in first place in the Eastern Conference after sweeping a two-game set at home last weekend.

"We feel like we took some steps last weekend," Warriors head coach Mark O'Leary said. "We won the games different ways, we were happy with our effort in both games and we stuck with it and found a way to win."

Those two wins, including a victory over the Western Conference-leading Prince George Cougars, vaulted the Warriors into second place in the Canadian Hockey League's Top-10 rankings.

It's still early in the season, but the Warriors are happy with the validation that comes with that ranking.

"It means a lot, it shows that we're getting recognition for how the guys are playing," Warriors forward Jagger Firkus said. "At the same time, it's just a ranking, there's more to hockey than that, so moving forward, hopefully we can go higher, but at the same time, as long we keep playing like we did on the weekend, we'll be good."

The Warriors will head to Edmonton and Calgary as part of the team's two-game road trip this weekend. The Hitmen and Oil Kings sit ninth and 11th in the Eastern Conference, respectively.

O'Leary said Moose Jaw won't be taking either team lightly.

"The way that the league is set up right now, lower in the standings just means a tough weekend, things can change so fast," he said. "Both these teams had some success last weekend against a pretty good Portland team and we'll need to be ready."

Firkus said the Warriors need to keep the foot on the gas against Edmonton and Calgary.

"It's important that we play like we did [last] weekend," he said. "No matter who we're playing, we've got to make sure we stay at the pace we're playing with."

The Warriors open the road trip at Rogers Place in Edmonton on Friday night.

Newly added forward Dakota MacIntosh is expected to make his debut with the Warriors in the game.

Puck drops at 7 p.m. Tune into the action on WHL Live and Country 100, starting with the Pre-Game Show at 6:40 p.m.
