Warriors Look for Redemption in Brandon
April 12, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Moose Jaw Warriors News Release
Tuesday is a big game for the Moose Jaw Warriors.
After dropping a 3-2 shootout game in Brandon on Saturday, the Warriors will head back into Westoba Place for another meeting with the Wheat Kings with plenty of playoff implications.
Moose Jaw sits tied with Saskatoon for fourth place in the Eastern Conference and three points ahead of Brandon.
Both the Warriors and Wheat Kings have two games in hand on the Blades with three games to play in the regular season.
"Two big points on the line for us and we'll be ready to go," Warriors head coach Mark O'Leary said.
With home ice advantage potentially on the line heading into the final week of the regular season, every point matters.
Warriors forward Eric Alarie said the Warriors want redemption against the Wheat Kings.
"Losing against them pisses us off," he said. "We don't want to lose twice against the same team, so we're going to be motivated for sure and we'll go there with the intention to win the game."
O'Leary said going up against the same team twice in a row gives Tuesday's game a playoff feel.
"It's preparing us both mentally for what the games are going to be like in the playoffs," he said.
The Warriors jumped out to a 2-0 lead on the Wheat Kings in Saturday's meeting before Brandon quickly closed the gap and secured the win in the shootout.
O'Leary said the Warriors' special teams hurt them in the loss.
"Our power play generated a lot of opportunities, but we didn't capitalize," he said. "Five on five, we played them pretty well, we had a pretty good game, but special teams was the difference."
Moose Jaw knows playing a more complete game will be key to having more success during Tuesday's rematch.
"Going into the playoffs, it's going to be close games and it was another close game on Saturday, so it's a good test for us and it's going to get us ready for playoffs," Alarie said.
The Warriors and Wheat Kings face-off for the final time in the regular season on Tuesday night at Westoba Place in Brandon.
