EVERETT, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips have officially inked forward Matthew Paszkiewicz to a Standard Player Agreement.

Paszkiewicz, an '05-born Calgary, AB native, was selected 173rd overall in Round 8 of the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft by the Silvertips. A 5-foot-9, 141-pound forward, Paszkiewicz has spent the 2021-22 season with the Calgary Flames U18 AAA squad, where he accumulated seven goals and 21 assists in 34 games played. He also skated in a pair of games for the Okotoks Oilers in the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

"I'm extremely honored to join the Everett Silvertips organization," said Paszkiewicz. "Having followed and watched the WHL growing up, it's a dream come true to join such a successful organization in Everett. I'm going to keep developing as a player and can't wait for the future."

"Matthew had a really good year," said Silvertips head coach and general manager Dennis Williams. "What I really like is his high energy level. I feel he has the potential to go anywhere up and down our lineup. You refer to players like this as a 'flex player,' one that can complement anyone on the team."

Paszkiewicz racked up 23 goals and 27 assists in 2019-20, leading his team with 50 points in 33 games played for the Calgary Flames U15 AAA. His six powerplay goals ranked second on the team. He also produced 28 points in 23 games with the NWCAA Bronks U15 AA squad in 2018-19.

While with the Flames and Bronks, Paszkiewicz was teammates with fellow Silvertips prospect Logan Greenough, who made his WHL debut during the 2021-22 season.

"Matthew plays a tenacious and competitive game while having a very high hockey IQ," commented Silvertips director of player personnel Mike Fraser. "You always know when he's on the ice with his willingness to battle and his commitment to being difficult to play against."

"Mike [Fraser] kept saying to me, 'he's a Silvertip,'" Williams added. "His play without the puck, his willingness to play inside the dots...his compete is next to none. He has that drive, and that's half the battle. Some people like playing hockey, some people want to be hockey players. Matthew to me wants to be a hockey player. We're really happy to have Matthew and his family come aboard with us here in Everett."

Paszkiewicz has attributed his high battle level to patterning his game after Boston Bruins winger Brad Marchand.

By signing a WHL Standard Player Agreement, Paszkiewicz is guaranteed a WHL Scholarship for every year he plays in the WHL.
