Warriors Kick-Off Final Stretch to End First Half
December 13, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Moose Jaw Warriors News Release
The Moose Jaw Warriors are aiming to finish off their final games before the holiday break on a high note.
That starts on Tuesday when Moose Jaw welcomes in the Spokane Chiefs to the Hangar.
"We're not taking these two game easy at all," Warriors forward Atley Calvert said. "We want to win both of them and go into the Christmas break feeling good about ourselves."
The Warriors are coming off a split of their two games last weekend, rolling to a 9-2 win over Calgary on Friday and then falling 6-3 in Medicine Hat on Saturday.
Warriors head coach Mark O'Leary said the team played well in both games, but didn't get the bounces in Saturday's loss.
"The big thing for us is making sure that our work habits are consistent and I thought they were for both games," he said.
"You're going to have games like in Medicine Hat where I thought we had one of our best starts of the season and we weren't rewarded for it."
Calvert said the Warriors know that they just need to keep playing their game and they will have more nights like Friday than Saturday.
"You've just got to stick with it, it's cliche, but if you just keep doing the right things and doing the little things right, eventually they'll find the back of the net," he said.
On Tuesday, the Warriors welcome in the 5-20-0-1 Spokane Chiefs, who have lost to Winnipeg and Brandon to open up their East Division road trip.
This is Spokane's first trip to Moose Jaw in 1,523 days.
"They have some young skill for sure," O'Leary said. "They're in a little bit different spot in terms of their development, they're rebuilding right now, but sometimes that just means they're little bit more hungry."
Calvert said the key for Moose Jaw will be to stay focused on their game.
"If we play our game, we can play with anyone in this league," he said.
O'Leary wants to see the Warriors come charging out of the gate.
"I'm looking for that same start that we had in Medicine Hat, if we do that, we give ourselves a chance," he said.
The Warriors and Chiefs face-off at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night.
