Tri-City Americans News Release
KENNEWICK, WA - The Tri-City Americans are proud to announce that goaltender Tomas Suchanek and forward Adam Mechura have been named to Team Czechia's roster for the 2023 World Junior Championships. The tournament takes place December 26 - January 5, 2023 in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada.
Suchanek is heading to the World Juniors for the second time after serving as Team Czechia's starting goaltender at the last tournament, which was held August 9-20 of this year in Edmonton, Alberta.
Suchanek posted a 1-4 record with a 3.55 goals against average and an .899 save percentage during the event.
With the Americans, Suchanek is in his second year after being selected ninth overall in the 2020 CHL Import Draft. In 2021-22, Suchanek went 12-24-4-0 with a 3.87 goals against average and a .901 save percentage.
This season Suchanek has already set a new career high in wins, currently sitting with a record of 13-9-0-0 along with a 3.61 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage. He is sixth amongst WHL goaltenders for minutes played with 1,265.
Mechura will also be suiting up at World Juniors for the second time after recording an assist in seven games during the August tournament.
The Americans drafted Mechura fourth overall in the 2022 CHL Import Draft after he recorded an impressive 84 points (54-30-84) in just 42 games with his Czechia junior program, Bili Tygri Liberec U20.
Through 27 games in the WHL, Mechura has scored 20 points (11-9-20), including Saturday's teddy bear toss goal against the Prince George Cougars.
The Americans would like to congratulate both Suchanek and Mechura as they join a long line of Americans players to play at the prestigious World Junior Championships, most recently joining Andrej Golian who played for Team Slovakia in the 2021 World Junior Championships.
