Spokane Chiefs News Release

Moose Jaw, S.K. - The Spokane Chiefs' offense came alive on Tuesday night as they skated to a 5-2 victory over the Moose Jaw Warriors to snap their four-game skid.

It started nearly six minutes into the opening frame, as Saskatchewan native Cade Hayes pushed the puck to team captain Raegan Wiles, who connected with a flying Carter Streek rushing the net. Streek found the twine for the eighth time this season to give Spokane an early 1-0 lead.

At 13:50, rookie forward Berkly Catton found himself speeding down the left boards and got the puck to Ty Cheveldayoff in front of the net. Cheveldayoff's shot was saved. but Chase Bertholet was there to pick up the rebound and his 10th goal of the year to put the Chiefs up 2-0.

The second period was the Tommaso De Luca Show, featuring two unanswered goals by the Italian-born forward - first at 5:27 (assists for Streek and Mac Gross), then at 10:39 (assists for Jake Gudelj and Brayden Crampton).

De Luca now has 21 total points in 25 games played (8G-13A) and is ranked fifth among Western Hockey League rookies.

With a 4-0 lead at the start of the final frame, the Chiefs weren't done yet. Streek padded that lead to five at 6:51 with help from De Luca and Crampton.

Moose Jaw finally answered a little over halfway through the period with Robert Back's sixth of the year. They tacked on another from Harper Lolacher at 16:55, but that's as close as they'd get as Spokane came away with the 5-2 win.

Rookie netminder Dawson Cowan picked up his second win as a Chief and earned third star honors after turning aside 33 shots on the night, including all 22 through the first two periods.

Spokane went 0-for-1 on the power play, but their penalty kill was a perfect 2-for-2. The Warriors outshot the Chiefs by one, 35-34.

Up next, the Chiefs travel just up the road to Regina where they'll take on the Regina Pats on Wednesday night. The game marks a return to his hometown for alternate captain Blake Swetlikoff.
