Frederick Keys News Release
After scoring just one run on eight hits in the first two games of this series, Frederick's bats came alive Sunday afternoon in the fifth inning. Keys 3B Brandon Waring hit a grand slam to dead center field, pushing Frederick past the Winston-Salem Dash 5-3.
Frederick RHP Sean Gleason got the start. The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth. Dash 3B Brent Morel doubled off the wall in left. 1B Seth Loman then struck out swinging, but it was a wild pitch. Loman reached first safely, and Morel advanced to third. CF Justin Greene hit an infield single, scoring Morel, and making it 1-0.
The Dash ended up loading the bases in the fourth inning. DH Kent Gerst grounded into a 5-4 fielder's choice, allowing Loman to score from third, and making it 2-0.
The Keys got on the scoreboard in the fourth. 1B Robbie Widlansky ripped a double to right center field. DH Wally Crancer knocked him in with an RBI-single, making it 2-1.
Frederick took the lead for good in the fifth. With two men down, CF Matt Angle and SS Pedro Florimon hit back-to-back singles. Widlansky walked, loading the bases for Waring. He delivered with a grand slam to center field, making it 5-2 Frederick.
Waring's grand slam was the first this season for the Keys. The last Key to hit a grand slam was Chris Amador at Lynchburg on August 26, 2008.
The Dash tacked on an unearned run in the sixth inning. With RHP Eddie Gamboa in the game, CF Justin Greene singled. Gamboa tried to pick him off, but threw the ball away. Greene got all the way around to third. He scored on a sac fly to center from RF Sergio Morales.
Gleason (4-6) got the win. He allowed two earned runs in five innings of work. RHP Jacob Rasner (4-6) took the loss. RHP Brandon Cooney (3) pitched a perfect ninth to pick up the save.
The Keys are off Monday. On Tuesday, they open up a four-game series with the Wilmington Blue Rocks with a double-header. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 5:00 PM. For ticket information contact our box office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS.
