THE HILLCATS: Myrtle Beach edged Lynchburg 4-2 last night in the middle-game of this three-game set at City Stadium...Tonight the Hillcats play the final game of the series with the Pelicans and the last contest of a six-game homestand...They are in the midst of 13 out of 16 at Calvin Falwell Field...After playing seven games on the road at Kinston and Myrtle Beach, the Cats are playing the Indians and Pelicans again in this six-game homestand...Thus far they are 1-4 on this homestand...
VS. MYRTLE BEACH: The Hillcats are 11-7 against the Pelicans thus far this season and are 4-4 at City Stadium...Last year the Pelicans took the season series 13-7...Lynchburg was 6-6 against the Birds until they lost seven in a row to drop the series...Myrtle Beach has the all-time advantage in the series 117-101, and they are 54-52 in the Hill City...
RIGHT FROM THE GET GO: Myrtle Beach has scored a run int he top of the first inning in both games in this series and has not trailed thus far in this three-game set...Lynchburg has come from behind to tie the game on three separate occasions, but have never been able to grab an advantage...On Friday night the Hillcats erased two different three-run deficets before falling 9-6 and last night they came from two runs down to tie the contest before losing 4-2...
HEATING UP: UTIL Jose De Los Santos went 1-for-4 last night in the Hillcats 4-2 loss...In his last four games played he is 8-for-17 (.471) with three runs scored...In the month of August he is batting .340 (17-for-50) with eight runs scored in 13 games...
DARN YES: INF Chase d'Arnaud went 1-for-5 with a run and a stolen base last night...His five RBI on Wednesday night set a new career-high for the former fourth round pick...In his series against Kinston he went 7-for-15 (.467) and his current hitting streak is now up to nine games, his longest with Lynchburg...Over that time he is batting .350 (14-for-40) with four doubles, a homer, six RBI, seven runs scored and four steals...
HARRY AND THE HILLCATS: UTIL Josh Harrison went 1-for-4 last night and is now riding a seven-game hitting streak...Over that time he has gone 13-for-31 (.419) with a double, a homer, two RBI and six runs scored...He has hit in 12 of the 14 he has played with Lynchburg...Defensively he has already played three different positions, third base, second base and left field...
PRIORITY PACKAGE: Priority reliever RHP Tom Boleska worked three scoreless innings last night...The right-hander has now not allowed an earned run since his return from the Disabled List on July 19th...That span now covers 18 and 1/3 innings pitched...On the season he has allowed just one earned run in 24 and 1/3 innings for an ERA of 0.37...
RARITY FROM RODRIGUEZ: RHP R.J. Rodriguez allowed a three-run home run that propelled the Pelicans to their 9-6 win on Friday night...It was just the second time this season he has allowed a homer...In his last four outings the right-hander has allowed six earned runs in three and 1/3 innings (16.22 ERA) that has raised his ERA from 2.45 to 3.50...He notched his Carolina League leading 25th save of the season on Wednesday night...The all-star closer is just four saves short of tying the all-time Hillcats single-season record...D.J. Carrasco had 29 saves in 2002 to set the record and is the all-time team saves leader with 38...Rodriguez has moved ahead of Rafael Chavez (22) and is now tied for second place in Cats history with Melqui Torres...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Erik Cordier was originally drafted in the second round by Kansas City in 2004 out of Southern Door high school...That year he made 11 starts with the Royals Arizona League team and went 2-4 with a 5.19 ERA...After missing all of 2005 with a knee injury, Cordier began 2006 with Idaho Falls at the Rookie level and in three starts he went 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA before his promotion to Low-A Burlington...He made seven starts with the Bees and posted a 3-1 record with a 2.70 ERA before his season was cut short due to Tommy John Surgery that would force him to miss all of 2007...In March of that year he was traded to the Braves for Tony Pena Jr....Last season he began with the GCL Braves and he did not have a decision or allow a run in three games (two starts)...He advanced to Low-A Rome where he went 1-2 with a 5.18 ERA in nine starts...Cordier has made 20 starts this season for Myrtle Beach, and has gone 6-5 with a 3.48 ERA...Tonight is his fifth start of the season against Lynchburg, he is 2-0 with a 1.71 ERA (four earned runs in 21 innings) in his four outings against the Hillcats...In his start versus the Cats on June 16th, he tossed a complete game seven-inning shutout...
