Ward & Bergeron Named to AHL All-Star Teams

The American Hockey League announced today that Hamilton Bulldogs right-winger Jason Ward was named to the 2002-03 AHL First All-Star Team and defenceman Marc-Andre Bergeron was named to the 2002-03 AHL Second All-Star Team.

Jason Ward, a 24-year-old native of Chapleau, Ontario, was the AHL's leading scorer at the time of his recall to the Montreal Canadiens. In 69 games with the Bulldogs, Ward scored 72 points on 31 goals and 41 assists. The 11th overall pick in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft has also played in seven games with the Canadiens, recording three goals and two assists for five points. For Ward, who was voted to the Canadian team starting lineup for the 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic, this is his first postseason AHL All-Star Team Selection. Earlier this week, Ward was named the Hamilton Bulldogs American Specialty/HG Insurance/AHL Man of the Year for his commitment and contributions to the Hamilton area this season.

Marc-Andre Bergeron, a 22-year-old native of St-Louis-de-France, Quebec, has played in 66 games for the Bulldogs this season and has recorded eight goals and 21 assists for 39 points. Bergeron, the Canadian Major Junior Defenceman of the Year in 2000-01, has helped anchor the Hamilton defence to the second lowest goals against average in the AHL (169) and he leads the entire league with a plus-34 rating. Bergeron, who is currently with the Edmonton Oilers, skated in his first two NHL games this season. This is the first appearance he has made on a postseason AHL All-Star Team.

Hamilton Bulldogs players selected to AHL All-Star Teams in the past include: Left-winger Jason Chimera (2001-02 – First Team), Centre Brian Swanson (2001-02 – Second Team), Right-winger Daniel Cleary (1999-00 – Second Team), Goaltender Steve Passmore (1998-99 – Second Team), Left-winger Ralph Intranuovo (1996-97 – Second Team).

Each All-Star Team member will receive a custom designed ring in recognition of his selection to the 2002-03 AHL First and Second All-Star Teams.

The Hamilton Bulldogs also announced they have signed left-winger Ryan Vince to a professional tryout contract. Vince, a 25-year-old native of Amherstview, Ontario, has played in 65 games with the Dayton Bombers (ECHL) and has led the team in scoring with 53 points (27-26-53). The 6'0, 185 pound forward is expected to join the Bulldogs for their game in Syracuse tonight.
