Portland Pirates News Release

PORTLAND, ME - The Portland Pirates announced today that goaltender Maxime Ouellet has been named to the American Hockey League's Second All-Star team. Post-season All-Star team members were selected by voting of players and media in each of the AHL's 28 member cities. Ouellet becomes the first Pirate named to the All-Star team since fellow netminder Martin Brochu was named to the First All-Star team in 1999-2000.

Ouellet was originally a first-round draft pick (22nd overall) by Philadelphia in 1999. He has had a breakthrough season in 2002-03, his first full campaign in Portland. The 21-year-old Ouellet is 22-14-7 in 46 appearances with the Pirates, and his .931 save percentage and seven shutouts are both tops in the AHL. A native of Beauport, Quebec, Ouellet was named the starting goaltender for Canada at the 2003 AHL All-Star Game in Portland; this is his first postseason AHL All-Star Team selection. Earlier this season, he set three franchise goaltending records: most shutouts in a season (7), most saves in a period (29) and longest shutout streak (193:42).

Ouellet is joined on the second team by Marc-Andre Bergeron (D), Hamilton Bulldogs; Brian Pothier (D), Binghamton Senators; Michel Picard (LW), Grand Rapids Griffins; Craig Darby (C), Albany River Rats and Mark Mowers (RW), Grand Rapids Griffins.

First All-Star team members include Marc Lamothe (G), Grand Rapids Griffins; Ray Giroux (D), Albany River Rats; Curtis Murphy (D), Houston Aeros; Jean-Guy Trudel (LW), Houston Aeros; Matt Herr (C), Providence Bruins and Jason Ward (RW), Hamilton Bulldogs.

Each All-Star Team member will receive a custom designed ring in recognition of his selection to the 2002-03 AHL First and Second All-Star Teams.

The Pirates are back in action Saturday, March 29 when they host the Worcester IceCats at 7:05 p.m. Tickets for all remaining regular season home games are on sale at the Civic Center box office and all Ticketmaster outlets. Tickets may also be purchased by phone by calling the Civic Center at 775-3458 or Ticketmaster at 775-3331 or on-line at www.ticketmaster.com.
