Walleye Notes

It's All about Overtime: In all three games this week the Walleye saw extra time. Wednesday night Toledo and Orlando each went 65 minutes without scoring. Goaltender Neil Conway made 34 saves in the game and then stopped four of five in the shootout for a 1-0 win. Friday night, AJ Jenks scored halfway through the third period to force overtime in Fort Wayne. Walleye picked up a point in a 2-1 overtime loss. Toledo and Indy found themselves in a shootout Saturday night, Troy Schwab, Tyler Barnes and AJ Jenks all scored in the shootout to lead the Walleye to a 4-3 win.

Lerg Returns to Walleye: Goaltender Jeff Lerg has returned to the Walleye following a week long stint in Grand Rapids. The Livonia, Michigan native has been outstanding for the Walleye this year posting a new Walleye record 24 wins with a 2.45 goals against average and a .917 save percentage. He also has tied a new Walleye single season record with three shutouts.

New Walleye Record: Saturday night's win gave the Walleye a new single season record for wins at 38. The previous best was 37 set by the 2012-13 team. The Toledo ECHL single season record for wins is held by the 1995-96 Storm team that won 48 games (48-14-8).

Extra Time: The Walleye have played in three straight games that have gone past regulation time winning two of the three. The Walleye record for consecutive games going past regulation is four set from March 2 through March 9, 2012. That team split the four games, winning two and then losing two.

No Seat to be found: Saturday night a standing room only crowd of 7,816 filled the Huntington Center for Saturday's 4-3 shootout win over Indy. It was the 11th sellout crowd this year for the Walleye, one shy of the record 12 set back in the 2009-10 season. Toledo ranks third among ECHL teams averaging 6,562 per home tilt.

Playoff Games: The last seven games for the Walleye have been decided by two goals or less. Toledo has gone 4-2-1 in those contests.

Shooting them Down: The win Saturday improved the Walleye record to 6-2 in shootouts this season. Toledo has the fourth best scoring percentage 37.8% in shootouts this season (17 goals in 45 attempts). Troy Schwab has four shootout goals this year to lead the team.

A Five Game Week: Monday night the Walleye will face off in Elmira against the Jackals. Toledo is 2-1-0 against Elmira this year. Tuesday night features a stop in Wheeling. Toledo has taken four of the five meetings this season against the Nailers. On the weekend, the Walleye will see two fresh faces and then a very familiar one. Friday night is the first ever meeting between Toledo and the Missouri Mavericks. The Mavericks are the third team the Walleye will see this year of the seven former CHL teams that joined the ECHL (Allen and Brampton). The Kalamazoo Wings will be at the Huntington Center Saturday night. Toledo owns a 5-4-0 record against the rival Wings. The Walleye host the Florida Everblades for the first and only meeting this season Sunday.
