Florida Everblades News Release
TOLEDO, OH - 24 hours after claiming their first win of the 2009-10 campaign, the Florida Everblades sustained their first loss Saturday night, 5-2. Before their second straight sell out crowd, Toledo outscored Florida 3-0 in the third period to claim victory. The Everblades dominated the middle frame to get back into the contest but the Walleye outlasted the Blades to even the mini three-game set this weekend. The rubber match comes tomorrow from Lucas County Arena in Toledo at 5:30 p.m.
Unlike the night before where it took the Walleye seven chance to get their first extra-man goal, Saturday night it took them just one. Defenseman Joe Charlebois registered his first goal of the season after rifling a shot from the point past Chris Beckford-Tseu. Tommy Lange set up the play picking up the assist on the goal to give Toledo their first lead of the season, 1-0. That is how the first period would end.
In the second stanza, Toledo took the lead 2-0 as Joe Charlebois and Jamie Milam worked the puck to Mark Nebus who deposited the puck in the back of the Blades net. Florida would pick up their play to close the period. Rookies Jordan Morrison and Brandon Buck tallied their first goals of the season to tie the score heading into the third period.
The Walleye broke the game open with back-to-back power play markers to ensure the victory. Jamie Milam and Justin Hodgman tallied their first goals of the season to give Toledo a two-goal cushion. Tommy Lange finished the scoring for Toledo at 16:46 of the period to close the scoring.
The Florida Everblades and Toledo Walleye return to the ice in less than 24 hours. It is the final game of three straight and the rubber match in the series. Join John Curtis for the Shoeless Joe's Sports Café pregame show at 5:10 p.m. as the Everblades and Walleye battle for the final time in Toledo this season.
