Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed forward Andrew Sarauer ["SARR"]. In separate transactions also announced today, goaltender Beau Erickson was loaned to the Marlies and goaltender Eddie Neville was signed as an emergency back-up.
Last year, Sarauer (6'4/205) (24), who hails from Outlook, Saskatchewan, scored nineteen goals and assisted on twenty-seven others (forty-six points) and picked up seventy-one penalty minutes in forty-nine games with the Johnstown Chiefs in his first year as a pro. Sarauer also earned two call ups to the AHL last year, including a fifteen game stint with the Lake Erie Monsters (1g-1a) and three games with the Norfolk Admirals. Sarauer, a fourth round pick of the Vancouver Canucks in the 2004 NHL entry draft, played four seasons at Northern Michigan University, where he scored thirteen goals and registered eighteen assists (thirty-one points) in 112 collegiate games. Last season, Sarauer had four multi-goal games including a two-goal performance against the Royals in a 5-4 win for the Chiefs over Reading on November 8, 2008. In eight games against Reading last season, Sarauer racked up ten points (4g-6a=10pts). After a torrid November in which he picked up eighteen points (10g-8a) in fourteen games, Sarauer was loaned to Lake Erie in early December, and he remained with the Monsters through mid-January. Upon his return to Johnstown, Sarauer took off on a nine game point streak (5g-5a) in February. In fact, Sarauer amassed up twenty-six points (9g-17a) over a span of twenty-three games down the stretch for the Chiefs last year, which earned his late season call up to Norfolk.
The Royals seek to pick up the team's first win of the year tonight (October 17, 2009 @ 7:05 pm) when the Elmira Jackals visit the Sovereign Center. The first 1500 fans that night will receive a dry-erase schedule board courtesy of CJ Rooter Plumbing and Drain Service. Season tickets for the Royals' 2009-10 season are currently available.
