Ontario Reign News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings, fell to the Bakersfield Condors, 5-0, in the season opener for both clubs on Friday evening before a crowd of 5,007 fans at Rabobank Arena.
With the exception of a fight between Reign defenseman David Walker and Condors left wing Bobby Bolt at 15:12 that was eventually broken up by officials, it was an uneventful first period until the clock had just over a minute remaining. Left wing Andrew Ianiero put the Condors up on the board with assists from forward Adam Naglich and left wing Logan MacMillan. Bakersfield took their 1-0 lead into the second period as the Reign looked to score their first goal of the season.
The Condors extended their lead to four goals and held the Reign scoreless in the second frame. Three Bakersfield players recorded three points each. Defenseman Sasha Pokulok notched two goals, while recently re-assigned right wing Dan Sexton and center Mathieu Aubin picked up two points each.
Bakersfield added another goal in their column just under four minutes into the third period when center Maxime Macenauer threw the puck past Ontario netminder Mike Zacharias with an assist from left wing Shawn Weller, who recorded his second point of the night on the play. The remainder of play saw the Condors with three power play opportunities, but the Reign's penalty killers kept the puck out of the net. Ontario was unable to put a goal on the board, and Bakersfield went on to win the first match of the season with a final score of Condors 5, Reign 0. The clubs will face-off again on Saturday evening at Rabobank Arena at 7:00 p.m.
