Idaho Steelheads News Release

The Idaho Steelheads (2-0-0) won their second consecutive game against the Stockton Thunder (0-2-0); tonight by a 3-2 score. 3,553 fans witnessed tonight's Steelheads victory, and the first two points of Michael Neal's professional hockey career, which included the game-winning goal.

The Steelheads opened the scoring at 3:22 of the first period when Evan Barlow scored his second of the season, assisted by Mark Derlago and Tyler Spurgeon. Following Barlow's goal, the much-anticipated scrap between Idaho's Adam Huxley and Stockton's Garet Hunt took place, with Huxley landing the decisive final blow before linesmen intervened.

Less than eight minutes later, Ashton Rome made it 2-0 Steelheads when he netted his first of the season, with assists going to Marty Flichel and Michael Neal.

The second frame saw the Stockton Thunder cut the Steelheads' lead in half. Jamie Bates scored his first of the young season, beating Rejean Beauchemin five-hole. Ryan Constant and Jordan Bendfeld picked up the assists.

An altercation in the second period concluded with the ejection of Stockton defenseman Luis Tremblay from tonight's game. He was guilty of a kneeing penalty against the Steelheads' Mathieu Tousignant. Following the contact, Tousignant challenged Tremblay, and the two engaged in a fight. A three-minute power play ensued for the Steelheads, who were unable to convert on the man-advantage.

A hard-fought third period included a goal for each team. Michael Neal's first professional goal put the Steelheads up 3-1 when he took an outlet pass from Evan Barlow that led to a breakaway; Neal beat Bryan Pitton high stick side.

With three seconds to go, Judd Blackwater scored his second goal in as many games, which proved to be too little, too late for Stockton.

Rejean Beauchemin improved to 2-0-0, stopping 24 of the 26 shots he saw. Bryan Pitton stopped 42 of 45 shots in a losing effort; he falls to 0-1-0.
