Toledo Walleye News Release

(Toledo, OH) - The Toledo Walleye and Head Coach Nick Vitucci announced today that the team has traded the rights to forward Evan Rankin to the Utah Grizzlies in exchange for forward Riley Emmerson. In an unrelated move, forward Joey Martin has signed a player tryout agreement with the Houston Aeros of the AHL.

"We are excited to add a big, tough forward in Riley to our team." said Vitucci. "It's tough to give up the rights to one of the best players (Rankin) we have ever had here, but this deal will help us improve up front immediately."

Riley has appeared in 32 games this year with Utah and has two goals and two assists with 66 penalty minutes. The former seventh round pick of the Minnesota Wild in 2005 has skated in 217 games at the ECHL level between Utah, Stockton, Florida and Texas. Emmerson spent most of the 2008-09 season with the Rochester Americans of the AHL, skating in 42 games with 107 penalty minutes. He has 643 career penalty minutes.

Rankin has not appeared a game for Toledo since November 23. Evan signed a player tryout agreement with Rochester and has not returned to Toledo.

Martin will be making his second trip to the American Hockey League and both stints have been with Houston. The first year forward from Thorold, Ontario was named the ECHL Player of the Week on Tuesday for his four goal, three assist week. Joey is Toledo's leading scorer this season with 12 goals and 13 assists, and is currently on a five-game point streak. Martin appeared in four games earlier this year with Houston and scored one goal.
