South Carolina Stingrays News Release

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays, proud ECHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals, are holding a fundraiser benefiting Zach Salza and his family during the Stingrays' annual Pack the House Night on Saturday, January 28 at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum.

Zach, 8, was bitten twice by a rattlesnake in nearby Wannamaker County Park on November 23, 2011 and spent more than three weeks in intensive care at Medical University Hospital. The venom caused temporary paralysis from the neck up and he was placed on a respirator and feeding tube. Since December, Zach regained feeling in his face and was able to open his eyes, speak and eat. On New Year's Day, the Salza family moved home.

"The players and I had a chance to meet Zach last month at MUSC," said Stingrays President Rob Concannon. "He's a fighter. We are so excited that he is home now, but he needs everyone's support. Zach and his family need our help. We encourage everyone to come out to our Pack the House game and help with his medical bills."

Donations will be accepted at the Stingrays Customer Service Table behind section 110 at the North Charleston Coliseum and volunteers will be walking around the main concourse to accept donations. Zach and his family will be at game and he will drop the ceremonial first puck.

The Stingrays return to action on Friday, January 20 against the Greenville Road Warriors at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum for Dog Days of Winter featuring a Super Weiner Dog Race!
