
Walker Recalled by St. Louis

Worcester, MA- It was announced this afternoon by the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League (NHL) that defenseman Matt Walker had been recalled from the Worcester IceCats of the American Hockey League (AHL).
A member of the IceCats record setting 108 point and AHL Regular Season Championship team in 2000-2001, Walker is in his third season as a member of the Worcester IceCats. The 6'1" defenseman has laced the skates up for 20 of 26 IceCats contests this season, notching four assists and a 'plus 16' rating: 20(0/4/4)+16. Prior to his first-ever NHL recall, his 'plus 16' rating was tied for second overall in the AHL, tied for first among all AHL defensemen and second on the IceCats. Named the IceCats Most Improved Player for the 2000-01 season, Walker's IceCats totals reflect 130 games, six goals, 23 assists and 328 penalty minutes: 130(6/23/29)328. Matt was a member of the 1998 Memorial Cup Championship team with the Portland Winter Hawks (WHL).
In other news, the Worcester IceCats have recalled defenseman Mike Stuart from the Peoria Rivermen of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). Born in Chicago, Illinois, Stuart has appeared in two games for the IceCats this season, registering no points. A graduate of Colorado College (WCHA), Stuart has skated in 16 games with the Peoria Rivermen. The former sixth choice of the Nashville Predators in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft recorded his first professional goal on Nov. 30th in Cincinnati (ECHL). The 22 year old, right-handed defenseman checks in at 6'1" and 194 pounds.
Worcester is on the road for four straight games starting Wednesday in Chicago. The 'Cats return home to the Centrum Centre on Wednesday, December 18th with a 7:05 game against St. John's.
