Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

GARY, IN - Alex Crosby's first home run of the season could not have come in a more important spot. The infielder's solo shot in the bottom of the 11th inning gave the Gary SouthShore RailCats (11-13) a dramatic 4-3 win over the Sioux City Explorers (12-11).

The RailCats, who had lost four of their last five games, have been searching for hits during the homestand and Crosby came through. The left-hander sent a Jake Kuebler pitch over the right field fence to prevent a sweep by the X's.

Andy Roberts pitched a scoreless 3.1 innings of relief and earned the win for the RailCats. Alex Gunn pitched well in a 5.0 inning start in which he allowed only one run on five hits. John Kovalik was roughed up in his inning of work but Santiago Rodriguez was able to come in and limit the damage.

Kuebler was charged with the loss after his 2.0 innings where he gave up just the one run. Jordan Risse started for the X's and allowed three runs on five hits.

Masato Fukae broke his slump in the 5th inning with a two-out RBI single over the head of the second baseman. Brennan Metzger added a base hit RBI in the next at bat.

Tillman Pugh made it two days in a row with a RBI when he got the Cats on the board in the 4th inning.

Both teams' bullpens kept the opposing offenses at bay until Crosby's bomb in the 11th. Crosby finished the six game homestand 8-17.

Now Gary SouthShore embarks on a nine game road trip beginning on Tuesday. The next broadcast is Tuesday, June 14th from Sioux Falls, SD and can be heard on 95.9 WEFM and railcatsbaseball.com starting at 6:40PM.
