Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, ND - In all four games of this Northern Division series, the game came down to plays made in the ninth inning. Sunday had Winnipeg taking a 4-2 win and splitting the series with Fargo-Moorhead at Newman Outdoor Field. The Goldeyes scored three runs in the top of the ninth and held off the home team.
The game was relatively quiet through the first seven innings, only one run was scored. Reggie Abercrombie scored on a sacrifice fly by Carlton Tanabe in the fifth. The main reason why was the play of both starting pitchers. Edwin Carl pitched six shutout innings and struck out ten for the road team. On a few occasions the 'Hawks were threatening and Carl struck out a batter to halt any scoring opportunity.
The F-M ace Tyler Herron was reliable as always, going 8.1 innings and yielding only three runs. He didn't receive any run support until the eighth, however. It started when Ryan Pineda was hit by a pitch and then Keury De La Cruz took a walk, then Josh Mazzola continued his great series with a double, scoring Pineda. De La Cruz later was brought in by Ryan Wagner to give the home team a 2-1 lead heading into the ninth.
As par for the course in this series, the team trailing going into the ninth wasn't going to go quietly. Back-to-back-to-back doubles by Jacob Rogers, Abercrombie, and Wes Darvill put three more runs on the board for the Goldeyes and allowed them to take back the lead at 4-2. Closer Jailen Peguero came to the mound for them, and his cool hand sealed the win and his fourth save of the year.
Herron (3-1) takes his first loss as the 'Hawks now sit at 13-10, while Eric Eadington (1-0) got the win in a game that puts the Goldeyes half a game back of their rivals at 13-11. The RedHawks will continue their homestand at Newman against Lincoln on Tuesday at 7:02 p.m.
