Wichita Wingnuts News Release

AMARILLO, Texas - The Wichita Wingnuts surrendered a pair of homers to Burt Reynolds as the Texas AirHogs salvaged the finale of the four-game set 7-3 Sunday afternoon at Potter County Memorial Stadium.

Texas (10-14) scored first for the first time in this series, scoring four on Charlie Leesman (1-2) in the third. Reynolds broke the scoreless deadlock, launching his league-leading 11th homer to make it 3-0. The AirHogs then added another later in the frame on an RBI single by Cody Lenahan.

The AirHogs added another in the next frame, Austin Gallagher singled in a run to make it 5-0.

Trailing for the first time since Tuesday in Kansas City, Wichita (12-12) did not record a hit against Palmer Betts (3-1) until the fifth. Brennen Salgado walked with two outs in the inning, and Brent Dean followed with a single for the Wingnuts first hit of the day to put two on for Leo Vargas. Vargas doubled Salgado home and moved to Dean to third, who scored later on a wild pitch to make it 5-2.

Neither team scored again until the eighth. Vargas reached on a two-base error, then scored on a two-out single by Zack Cox to cut the lead to two.

Reynolds was back at it again for Texas in the home half of the inning. The AirHog left fielder launched his second long ball of the game, a two-run shot, to finish the afternoon's scoring.

Betts worked eight innings for Texas, retiring the side in order in five of the eight, and keeping the Wingnuts offense to a season-low five hits.

The loss ends Wichita's season-high six-game win streak, as well as their seven-game road winning streak, and gives them a 6-1 record for their seven-game road trip.

The Wingnuts are off on Monday before returning to Lawrence-Dumont Stadium Tuesday night to begin a three-game series against the Kansas City T-Bones. Wichita will send veteran righty Jon Link (3-2, 4.10) to the hill in the series opener, while Kansas City has yet to announce Tuesday's starter. First pitch on Tuesday is set for 7:05 p.m. and the game can be heard on 1410 AM KGSO, as well as on TuneIn.
